iTunes and the Beastie Boys

by marcus on June 17th, 2004

On Tuesday, I purchased the new Beastie Boys album from iTunes for $14.85. The album has 15-tracks and there is no “bulk album” discount so I ended up paying $0.99 per track. Today a friend of mine went to Best Buy and purchased the same album, the hard copy with CD, jewel case, liner notes for $9.99.

So that begs the question why did I just spend 50% more for an inferior product!?
Where’s my savings and convienence? I had to spend the time to download and burn my own CD.

I’ve bought albums previously from iTunes since they were only $9.99, which was cheaper than the normal store price of around $13. For some reason, I thought the $15 price would be cheaper than stores. However, I’ll be reconsidering each purchase on the service.

iTunes has to make the albums cheaper than store bought. Why pay more for less?
