Text Messaging and New Media

by marcus on July 13th, 2004

An interesting idea and a new way to distribute media. A Chinese author has written a novel with 60 chapters of 70 characters each. His novel can be purchased and will be sent to your cell phone. I’m not really sure how it sends the novel to your phone, once a day, once a week or all at once.

What will be next? I know you can receive daily health and other tips to your e-mail, this can easily be converted to cell phones. Probably already being done somewhere.

Maybe a more interactive novel, a choose-your-own-adventure which you can reply and choose what occurs next. Or even false realities, a person can pay to receive and reply to messages from “imaginary” on-line relationships or scenarios. This probably could be tied together with other internet sources such as e-mail and web sites and a complete alternate world can be created, similar to the Michael Douglas movie The Game.
