Depression: Drugs vs. Exercise

Date: Mar 10, 2005

I was watching VH1’s 100 Most Wanted Bodies the other night, it wasn’t quite as trashy as it sounds. really! The show highlights celebrities with hot bodies and gives a little background plus their exercise and nutrition habits.

One of the featured celebs was Sheryl Crow. They said she went through a small bout of depression and instead of taking drugs, like her doctor recommended, she ended up running and exercising. And that is what got her through it, and got her that fantastic body.

It seems really quite simple, makes you wonder why we have such a drug dependent society. I suppose after seeing numerous headlines such as this [NY Times], it comes down to people being “lazy/busy” and wanting the quick fix. Can’t I just take a pill for that?

Now I suppose, since this is my blog, I should some how relate this to me. Don’t worry I’m not depressed. Completely directionless, yes. But still cheerful not knowing where I’m going. I’ve started running again. Plus trying to cut back on my caffeine intake, 6-7 cups of coffee to get through my day is a little much.

Quitting the job helps. Plus leaves plenty of free time. So now if my upcoming travels don’t derail me, I’ll be running in a half-marathon this July and depending on how that goes a full marathon in October.
