Selenium Toner Effects - changes silver to silver-selenium
- Changes print tone from greenish to purplish.
- Adds stability to print, prevents deterioration of surface.
- Deepens blacks and increases contrast a bit.
Works best with fibre paper, and fixer without hardener.
MIX & TONE ONLY IN WELL VENTILATED AREA
ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES - USE TONGS - DO NOT EAT OR DRINK
Mixing Chemical
Dilute selenium toner liquid one part toner to 10-20 parts water (see bottle for details)
Diluted toner can tone 50-100 8x10 prints.
Highly recommended to use liquid toner and not make, mix or use dry chemicals.
Toning Print
- Pre-soak print(s) in water for about two minutes, rotating so thoroughly wet.
- Place print in toner. Agitate 3-5 minutes. (DO NOT SPLASH)
Compare toning print to straight print in water for accurate comparison.
Tone until slightly warmer (sometimes purple) in mid-grays.
- Move toned print to third tray with water. Wash print 50% more than a normal
wash. For example, if wash is normally for 20 min, wash print for 30 min.
Cleaning Up
Save used toner good for 50-100 prints, mark bottle. After toner used up,
pour down drain and flush with plenty of water. (Kodak's recommendation)
