Google Calendar and 30 Boxes
A little bit about online calendaring, I’m a little torn right now between 30 Boxes which I am currently using and Google’s new calendar app.
I really like 30 Boxes and want it to do well. However, Google's Calendar seems to be some pretty strong competition. I like the attitude that 30 Boxes has welcoming the competition. Capitalism at its best, hopefully the consumer will benefit.
A few things I like with Google Calendar is having the month view instead of the 4-week view that 30 Boxes shows. I'm more used to seeing a month at a time, knowing the start of the month is always at the top, and the end at the bottom. 30 Boxes shows the latest 4-weeks so today is always in the middle of the page.
Also, Google has a slightly cleaner feel and a lot of niceities such as: being able to cycle through the months on the left; for 30 boxes this is a pop-up and requires an extra click.
One bizarre thing is Google Calendar does not have Verizon support for wireless notification. I notice because I do have Verizon. I don't know what sort of pissing match Google and Verizon must be having but it is pretty lame. Google you may be big, but I really don't think anyone is going to change their cell service just to use your calendar.
My biggest pet peeve right now though is the new link bar that Google has at the top. This is nice to switch between GMail and Calendar, but why the F@#&*K is it a new windoW!!! If I switch back and forth between the two, I end up having a bunch of open tabs. So so lame.
